Highway Construction

A GREAT opportunity!

South Side Mission is pleased to partner with Illinois Central College, who offers a highway construction careers training program to prepare participants for careers in the highway construction trades industry. The intensive 8-week training program covers construction math, job readiness, blueprint reading, construction technical skills, first aid, CPR, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 10-hour certification. The program includes classroom learning, skills labs, and actual job site work.

Successful candidates:

  • must be at least 18 years old
  • have a high school diploma or GED
  • have a valid Illinois driver’s license
  • consent to random drug screening

Program participants receive $5 per hour stipend, work boots, and a set of construction tools.

ICC partners with the Illinois Department of Transportation and the Illinois Community College Board to offer the program which is designed to increase the number of women, minorities, and disadvantaged individuals working on IDOT highway construction projects. The program is offered through the Corporate and Community Education Department at ICC.
